Kundalini Yoga was originally taught only to the men of Brahmin households in India. It was a secret technology until 1968, when Yogi Bhajan came to the West and began teaching it openly. We refer to Kundalini as a "technology" because it was developed for the busy lifestyle of a householder with a family.
Kundalini employs several yogic practices in each class: asana, mudra, pranayama, dristi, chanting, and meditation. Most Kundalini asanas are done while seated and employ dynamic, moving postures. In fact, many postures can be done sitting in a chair. Each kriya is designed to clear the energy centers of the body, or chakras, and then direct that energy up the spine.
Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is perfectly safe. It is a yoga of consciousness, a technology that will forge the union between you and YOU. The result is a profound expansion of consciousness and the pure joy of meeting your true self. Kundalini Yoga in the Loop is Chicago's largest Kundalini center. Our weekly schedule includes Kundalini Yoga, Integral Hatha, and Breathwalk (walking meditation). Monthly workshops include gong baths and special interest groups: singles, gays, Christian, etc. Kundalini Yoga teacher training is offered over ten weekends, once per month from October through June. The training is a 200-hour certified course and Yoga Alliance-registered. Breathwalk instructor training is also offered, a 30-hour course conducted over two weekends.
